By How many of us have a vision for our life? A mission statement? Recently I decided to try bullet journaling (still very early in testing, but I will write about it more when I have finished my test phase). One thing that I was told by my friend that spoke wonders of what this method could do, was that first you have to write out you mission, purpose and values down. I don’t know about you but that was not an easy task, I avoided it for several days because I was not sure what I would write, how could I put all that I do and love to do into one concise statement? I struggled through it and got it done, asking myself if it was truly necessary to do this, even know trying to wrap my mind around why I would need to write this out. Then last week I heard a verse, that i have heard many times and it was related to a different context but then, it clicked with this as well.
Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.- Habakkuk 2:2
How many times have we seen a vision that is complicated and convoluted? I am glad now, that I took the time and wrote out something more simple, but I am also wondering if the vision is plain enough that when written, someone could read it while running. When people ask you about your vision are you stumbling around to find the words or do you have something at the ready to tell them? How can people come alongside your vision if they are not told the vision, or if they do not understand the vision? I know over the new couple of days, I will be taking some time to review what I wrote, and ask myself, is my vision plain (easily understandable)? Can the person read it while running? Even more so what is your vision? Let’s chat!
My vision success. And not success as in millions of dollars, paparazzi chasing me, etc. Success to me is anything that is continually making progress. My vision is for my blog to continually progress and reach new people. My vision is just growth. I loved your article; great thoughts!

Beth, this is brilliant, I love it! Often when I’m low I find writing things down to be extremely helpful. But you’re right, forming a mission statement can be really helpful to gain focus over what we’re doing with our lives and how we’re spending our time. I might just have to give it a try 🙂

I am still working at getting my mission statement on my blog somewhere. Keep looking, I am sure I will be putting it up soon! I also write using a pen and paper, sometimes that is where I start my ideas.
Love this. I’m working on a mission/vision statement and so far I’ve got something like: My purpose is to write and create work that helps restore dignity, worth, and the image of God in all people. So hard to get the precise words and keep it succinct.
Yes! The getting it to precise and succinct is the hard part, I guess that is why that becomes a bit more of a living document with tweaks along the way. When you realize certain things should not be included or things or values that are important need to be included.
