Here Am I! Send Me.

As a child, I remember singing a song that the chorus went like this ” Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.” This chorus, spoke to my heart then, and it still speaks to me now. My heart, says yes to God far quicker than my mind. I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel like my heart and my brain are not even on the same path. Songs, they have a way of speaking to my heart that bypasses my brain and the logic side of things that would explain away the things that don’t make sense.

So sometimes, while my heart is jumping up and down saying here I am, send me! God has to also speak to my mind, and get the brain on board as well. I wonder if the great men and women of God in the Bible had the same struggle? Then I think of Isaiah, he is the one that said those exact words.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)

I then think, he did not even know what he was going to need to say or do and he just said “Here am I! Send me.”  This at first gave me the idea that he was this amazing guy that said yes to God without knowing anything about what he was to do or say. However, when I look at the verses before that I see that God had already shown himself in a way that no one really sees Him

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.  Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.  And one cried to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”

And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said:

“Woe is me, for I am [a]undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The Lord of hosts.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar.  And he touched my mouth with it, and said:

“Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”

It is in that moment that I was glad to see that I am not the only one that God speaking to with a bang! Often God has to tell me things several times or with what I call flashing lights and signs before my brain gets on board. My heart is always there far before my brain. So in this season, my heart and my brain have gotten on the same path and both are saying Here am I! Send me! What is God speaking to you in this season?
