Peace

Peace, that word can sometimes seem like something unheard of, unknown, an impossibility. For those with anxiety, with their mind racing constantly, thinking of every possible worse thing that can happen, the idea that peace can calm their mind down for even just one minute seems unreal. For those living in a time of trial and hardship, you don’t feel you have time for peace because God is not there for you, right? Or maybe you are asking God, where are you? For some reason, when I have been praying for people, this seems to come up often. I pray for people as part of the prayer team at my church, and when some of these women and couples come to me for prayer, peace is almost always the first thing out of my mouth, before I get to their requests.  Their hearts are so troubled and they don’t have peace and don’t even think to ask that God would give them peace. This saddens me, because I know that God’s peace has power to protect them and that without peace they are in a state of anxiety.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT)

Did you see that? God’s peace will guard your heart and mind. Do you see how you get God’s peace? You pray about everything and tell God what you need and thank Him for what he has done. When I pray for others I often pray this scripture over them.  To have God’s peace you have to be able to trust that He is good, and He is faithful. For some of us this is where the struggle really comes right? We can pray that God will meet our needs but then we allow our minds to keep on worrying because we are not really sure if God is good, or we are not really sure that God is faithful.  This scripture was written by Paul, while he was in prison, so it helps me to know that God can bring peace into any situation right? He gave Paul peace in prison.

Today, where are you at? Do you have peace? Is your mind full of anxiety? Pray, given over to God your requests, and find someone to help you remember who God is. I know sometimes I need those around me to remind me that God is good and God is faithful for me to truly give Him everything and not be anxious. If you need someone to pray for you, email me, comment, lets chat.
