Advent- Joy

At Christmas time one of the most familiar songs is “Joy to the World.” Week 3 of advent, the third candle is lit to symbolize the joy that comes with this season. We as a society love the concept of joy at Christmas, however we quickly forget this and lose our joy in the midst of it all.

In the hustle of the holiday season, as we try to finish our Christmas shopping, go to all of the Christmas parties and get everything done before we take a few days off, we forget about the joy. We lose sight of the very reason for the season.

“An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭2:9-14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

GREAT JOY is what was given to us. This week, my goal is to remember the joy that comes from God and not let myself lose this in the busyness that comes from the expectations we have set because of the holiday.
