LOVE Advent 2020

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

John 15:13 NIV

Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent. The focus of week 4 is love. Love. Love is a word thrown around for all sorts of things. We use it to mean all sorts of levels of things. We see this in the movie Frozen. When Anna gets hit by Elsa with her powers and begins to freeze, they are told that the only thing that can break the spell is an act of true love. Everyone assumes that this means a kiss from her true love. However, after racing back so her “true love” can give her a kiss they learn that he never loved her. He leaves her in the room to die a slow frozen death. We then see her as she gets out and stops Hans from killing her sister. She did this knowing she was dying and that her sister had caused this, however she still chose to save her sister. In this we see the act of true love. And in this act, Anna saves herself and her sister.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

This week I encourage you to think about how you are showing your love for others. How can you show acts of love this week? You don’t have to save someone from being killed to show your love. Sometimes it’s being willing to spend time with someone that is lonely, to call them, to write them, to FaceTime them, to drop off goodies…. Even in the midst of COVID we can show others love. Let’s chat! How are you showing love this week?
